SC8/GM13.5/SSS13.7Modelling soilscape development (co-organized)
|Convener: Peter Finke | Co-Conveners: Kristof Van Oost , Benjamin Campforts|
Thu, 27 Apr, 08:30–10:00
In recent years various models describing the evolution of soils and soilscapes have been developed. These models vary from topical (e.g. C-models) to comprehensive and from 1D to 3D. This short course aims to introduce three such models in an hands-on fashion. Short introductions will be accompanied by live demonstrations on generating, building and executing scenarios and evaluating their outputs. The models and associated input files will be made available in advance to the audience. Models to be demonstrated are: Speros-C (3D organic matter model), Be2D (Beryllium redistribution across a 2D-catena) and SoilGen (genesis of various soil properties at 1D pedon scale).
Downloadable model(s) with associated data files will be available in advance.
For SoilGen: http://users.ugent.be/~pfinke/EGU2017-SOILGEN.zip;
Advice is to download these files to your laptop before the short course!
For Be2D: for this part of the session Matlab is required. However, the session will be given as such that also participants without a Matlab version can follow. Files will be available at: https://kuleuven.box.com/v/Be2D
For SPEROS-C we will use R and R-studio. An R Markdown report (with reproducible code) is available at:
