This session is devoted to the understanding of tropical and extratropical climate variability and teleconnections. Contributions will examine the impacts, global teleconnections and underlying physical mechanisms of tropical and extratropical climate features such as the El Nino-Southern Oscillation (and El Nino-Modoki), Walker Circulations and Hadley Cells, the Indian Ocean Dipole, Tropical Atlantic Variability, Atlantic Multidecadal Variability, Pacific Decadal Oscillation, the tropical monsoons, the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone, Intra-seasonal variability, and the Indo-Pacific Warm Pool.

To provide insights into past, present and future changes in tropical and extratropical climate, this session will focus on research based on historical observations, instrumental records and GCM simulation results at interanual and multidecadal timescales.
