Emission estimates of trace gases and aerosols constrained by space-based observations
Convener: Ronald van der A | Co-convener: Trissevgeni Stavrakou

Emissions of trace gases and aerosols to the ambient environment play a crucial role in atmospheric chemistry. Information on the magnitude, type of activity, time evolution and the spatial distribution of the estimated emissions are important for air quality regulations, climate policies and as input to chemistry-transport models. Satellite observations play an increasingly important role in the validation and update of emission inventories. We welcome contributions related to advances in emission derivation based on satellite observations that are relevant to air quality and/or climate change, and especially the contributions to the following topics:
• methods for estimating emissions of gases and aerosols from satellite observations
• use of new observational datasets
• validation, analysis and trends of emissions on regional or global scale
• scientific applications in urban, regional, continental or global scale models for use by policy makers in order to evaluate progress towards emission abatement measures, and decisions on future strategies.
