In classical science-policy interfaces there is an assumption of knowledge transfer from scientists to policymakers. But there are many examples of scientists working with communities, policymakers and stakeholders to achieve a strong science-society-policy relationship based on trust. These relationships take time to establish, open minds to have sometimes difficult conversations, and respect and understanding of competing priorities.
With these challenges in mind, scientists are working successfully to bridge science, society and policy:, they are counseling policymakers, working with communities, mediatinge public debates and even taking on policy roles themselves. This session will showcase those working to surmount challenges to create bridges between scientists, citizens and policymakers to make critical societal impacts.
This interactive session will feature short presentations with country-specific examples, followed by focused conversation with presenters to allow for maximum interaction and discussion. Participants can take away inspiration and starting points for their own outreach work.
* This is a session designed and promoted by the "Voices for Science - AGU Program" fellows.
