Earth’s history is characterized by periodic fluctuations, long-term trends and abrupt changes in major climatic systems, as well as biotic turnover and evolutionary events. To investigate and understand these changes, researchers need to accurately resolve geological time in stratigraphic records.
This session invites (chrono)stratigraphers, paleoclimatologists and paleontologists that focus on paleoclimatic records from the last 100 million years of Earth's history. The main objective is to introduce new stratigraphic tools and methods, integrated multiproxy records, as well as educational platforms and databases designed to integrate the various aspects of geochronology.
The session will also present the efforts and outcomes of “The Time-Integrated Matrix for Earth Sciences” (TIMES), an international initiative bringing together a large community of researchers working in stratigraphy and paleoclimate proxy development. The goal of this 10-year project is to recalibrate global climate records from the last 100 million years on a unified high-resolution timeline using astrochronology.
