Rapid urbanization, land-use change, environmental degradation and socioeconomic vulnerability are increasingly interacting with hydroclimatic hazards, resulting in complex risks that cannot be solved with conventional hazard mapping or gray infrastructure alone. Nature-Based Solutions (NbS), ecosystem restoration and integrated risk management are powerful means to reduce hazards and build socioeconomic resilience. Advances in GIS, Earth Observation, hydrological modeling, machine learning and GeoAI enable the accurate identification of risks, mapping of vulnerabilities and spatial targeting of adaptation interventions.
This session convenes interdisciplinary researchers working across hydroclimatic hazards, geospatial science, GeoAI, NbS and community resilience.
Key scientific themes include:
1. Hydroclimatic variability and hazard dynamics (extreme rainfall, flood generation, catchment processes)
2. GIS, Earth Observation, GeoAI, and spatial modeling (machine learning, decision-support tools)
3. Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) and ecosystem-based adaptation (wetlands, green infrastructure, spatial prioritization)
4. Socioeconomic vulnerability and community resilience (adaptive capacity, local coping mechanisms, governance)
5. Integrated climate resilience and sustainable development (risk-informed planning, science-policy links)
Existing studies typically address hydrological modeling, NbS, vulnerability and community resilience separately. This session builds on discussions of how to embed these dimensions within coherent and actionable climate resilience frameworks. We are seeking global case studies from cities, river basins, wetlands and rural landscapes to link technology innovation with ecosystem-based adaptation and evidence-based decision making.
