The Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets are the primary sources of uncertainty in sea-level projections through 2100 and beyond. This session focuses on recent progress in ice-sheet modelling and its implications for sea-level rise across timescales – from paleo-climates to future projections.
We invite contributions linked to international coordinated ice-sheet modelling efforts, such as the Ice Sheet Model Intercomparison Project for CMIP7 (ISMIP7), the Tipping Points Modelling Intercomparison Project (TIPMIP), the Paleo Ice Sheet Modelling Intercomparison Project (PaleoISMIP), and other model intercomparison projects. Together, these initiatives aim to advance our understanding of ice-sheet trajectories across timescales by projecting the ice-sheet contributions to sea level over the coming decades and centuries, systematically assessing the long-term ice-sheet stability and tipping risks, and investigating the ice-sheet response to past, warmer than pre-industrial climates.
We welcome multi-model and single-model analyses of simulations following the coordinated protocols, as well as following other approaches. We particularly encourage submissions that explore and quantify uncertainties in the past and future ice-sheet evolution, including those arising from model physics, parameterizations, and climate forcing. Studies disentangling the role of initialization approaches, and the sensitivity of ice-sheet trajectories to initial conditions are highly welcome. We also seek contributions that examine coupled ice sheet-climate interactions, including feedback processes between the ice sheets, atmosphere, and ocean, and their impact on ice-sheet stability and sea-level rise. Through this session, we aim to foster collaboration and advance a more robust, community-based understanding of the past and future ice-sheet trajectories.
