This session welcomes a broad range of contributions on the modelling of glaciers and ice sheets, spanning methodological and applied studies, with an emphasis on their use in practice. We particularly encourage contributions on ice dynamics and higher-order mechanical models, data assimilation and inversion, uncertainty quantification, and the representation of coupled Earth-system processes within glacier and ice-sheet models.
Contributions addressing key physical processes and parameterizations, including basal processes, grounding line and calving dynamics, ice-ocean interactions, and novel constitutive relationships, are especially welcome. We also encourage applications of machine learning, differentiable programming, surrogate modelling, and other data driven methods to glacier and ice-sheet modelling.
Applications may address glaciers and ice sheets in both past and present climates, with specific interest in rapid ice dynamic change, ice streams and outlet glaciers, grounding line migration, glacier and ice sheet response to changing environmental forcing, and projections of future evolution and sea-level contribution. Model intercomparison, benchmarking, verification, and studies exploring model sensitivity and uncertainty are also strongly encouraged.
The session aims to bring together researchers developing modelling approaches and those applying them to observations and societally relevant questions, fostering exchange between the modelling and observational communities.
