Coastal and submarine environments are among the most dynamic landscapes on Earth, continuously reshaped by the interplay of hydrodynamic processes, sediment transport, tectonics, land subsidence, sea-level change, climate variability, and anthropogenic activities. Understanding the evolution of these interconnected systems is increasingly important in the face of accelerating climate change, growing coastal populations, and expanding offshore development. Recent advances in remote sensing, marine geophysics, bathymetric mapping, LiDAR, InSAR, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), numerical modelling, and field observations have substantially enhanced our ability to investigate geomorphic processes and landscape evolution across the land–sea continuum.
This session welcomes contributions investigating the evolution, morphodynamics, and sedimentary processes of coastal and submarine environments across a wide range of spatial and temporal scales. We encourage studies focusing on beaches, deltas, estuaries, tidal flats, coastal dunes, rocky coasts, cliffs, barrier systems, continental shelves, submarine canyons, submarine landslides, and other coastal and marine landforms. Contributions addressing shoreline evolution, land subsidence, relative sea-level rise, sediment budgets, coastal erosion and accretion, sediment connectivity, and interactions between terrestrial and marine geomorphic processes are particularly encouraged.
We especially welcome multidisciplinary studies integrating field observations with remote sensing, satellite data, LiDAR, InSAR, bathymetric surveys, seismic reflection, magnetic and other geophysical datasets, GIS analyses, machine learning, and process-based numerical modelling to improve our understanding of geomorphic evolution and sediment dynamics. Contributions exploring climate change impacts, coastal hazards, ecosystem resilience, nature-based solutions, and sustainable coastal management are also encouraged.
The session aims to provide a platform for coastal geomorphologists, marine geologists, geophysicists, remote sensing specialists, natural hazard scientists, and numerical modellers to exchange ideas, foster interdisciplinary collaborations, and advance our understanding of the processes shaping coastal and submarine landscapes across the land–sea continuum.
