Despite rapid advances in compound-extreme research, the global evidence base remains geographically uneven. Many studies rely on long-term gridded datasets and reanalysis products, while observationally constrained regions, including South and Southeast Asia, Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, Central Asia and other parts of the Global South remain comparatively underrepresented.
This session seeks to advance understanding of compound climate and hydrometeorological extremes in data-scarce and observation-limited environments. We welcome studies based on meteorological and hydrological observations, remote sensing, field campaigns, historical records, disaster databases, health and agricultural records, citizen science and other innovative sources of evidence.
Particular emphasis will be placed on the observed impacts and local manifestation of compound events, rather than solely their statistical characterization or future projection. Contributions addressing observational challenges, uncertainty, scale mismatch, data reconstruction, exposure and vulnerability, cascading impacts, risk assessment and locally relevant adaptation are encouraged.
