The high-latitude ionosphere is a highly dynamic environment shaped by solar and magnetospheric forcing, atmospheric dynamics, and plasma transport across a wide range of spatial and temporal scales. Understanding these processes requires coordinated observations and modelling, supported by complementary techniques including incoherent scatter radars, GNSS networks, magnetometers, optical instruments, satellites, and other remote-sensing systems.
This session brings together observational and modelling studies that use multiple techniques to investigate high-latitude ionospheric variability, plasma structuring and transport, auroral processes, and atmosphere-ionosphere-magnetosphere coupling. We particularly encourage contributions addressing multi-instrument observations, observation-model comparisons, cross-validation, data integration, and challenges associated with observing and modelling processes across different spatial and temporal scales.
The session will also provide a forum to discuss the coordination of high-latitude observations, development of integrated observational and modelling approaches, and opportunities for collaborative campaigns and shared strategies in preparation for the 5th International Polar Year (2032-2033).
