Infrasound in West Africa: Atmospheric Dynamics and Operational Monitoring Using the I17CI Station
Convener: Youssouf Lassane Konaté | Co-convener: KOUASSI Benjamin

This session presents an integrated approach based on infrasound records from the I17CI station to reconstruct the atmospheric dynamics and thermal structure of the atmospheric column over Côte d’Ivoire and the wider West African region. The session will cover the full methodological chain, including spectro-temporal signal processing, inversion of propagation parameters, and joint assimilation with MERRA-2 reanalysis data. It will also highlight operational applications such as seismic and explosion detection, early monitoring of convective storms, detection of volcanic eruptions, and identification of industrial incidents. Finally, the session will discuss the technical implementation using MATLAB tools, validation through case studies, and the benefits for forecasting, civil security, and national capacity building.
