GNSS stations represent one of the major observation infrastructures for geoscientific research. Depending on where one needs measurements, the station design needs to weigh up several factors including signal to noise, power consumption, data telemetry, and expense of installation. Recent years have seen the increase in deployments of lower cost hardware, in particular multi-frequency receiver modules and cheaper antennas which have lowered the financial stakes for more risky, experimental installations. Some teams have deployed large numbers of such lower-cost stations while others have successfully continued working with higher tier geodetic-grade hardware. In this session, we welcome contributions from researchers involved with GNSS station deployment, design, and maintenance. In particular, topics of interest for this session include the evaluation of data quality, innovative case study uses of these data, and we welcome insights from the community on collaborative ways forward for sustainable GNSS station densification.
