This session focuses on the hydrological and eco-hydrological processes that control landslide predisposing and triggering conditions, focusing on surface and subsurface water dynamics from local slopes to regional catchments. As rainfall regimes shift under climate change, understanding and quantifying these hydrological processes is critical for reliable landslide forecasting and early warning.
We welcome research on slope (eco-)hydrological processes and their upscaling to catchments, including evaporation, pore-water pressure buildup, preferential flow, and soil-bedrock interactions, as well as eco-hydrological mechanisms such as root-regulated drainage, suction dynamics, transpiration, and canopy interception. Disentangling these coupled water dynamics is essential for moving beyond the limitations of traditional empirical rainfall thresholds.
We invite contributions from field monitoring, novel measurement techniques, and physics-based, numerical, and data-driven modeling that advance our understanding of how these processes affect landslide occurrence.
