Atmospheric Science for Action: Linking Air Quality, Climate, Health, Equity, and Policy
Convener: Karn VohraECSECS | Co-conveners: Omar NawazECSECS, Aristeidis K. Georgoulias, Megan RobertsonECSECS, Nicole CowellECSECS

Atmospheric science research provokes and reacts to policy, and the two fields remain intertwined to the present. Air quality and climate hazards endanger exposed communities, and compounding exposures often harm public health, deepen inequality, and erode resilience, prompting policymakers to act. Evidence-informed action designed to improve air quality can create co-benefits for climate mitigation and simultaneously address health and environmental injustice challenges. This session calls for research seeking to understand how mitigation and adaptation actions to air pollution and climate change could influence atmospheric chemistry and dynamics in the present and future and how these actions could affect health and equality. We welcome abstracts that leverage remote sensing, statistical and earth system modeling, ground-based observations, machine-learning approaches, and policy analysis to test how well policies improve air quality and reduce climate change, health harms, and environmental injustices. We also seek novel atmospheric science research identifying where policy is needed.
