Education and Sharing knowledge
Convener: Tomas Halenka

Practices and advances in education of atmospheric sciences as well as the role of meteorology in the education process will be discussed. Contributions dealing with appearance of meteorology, climatology and hydrology in national curricula on all levels of education throughout Europe and overseas are welcome.

In particular we encourage contributions presenting
- the organisation of education in meteorology and climatology in different countries,
- the role and methods of school and off-school activities and programs in atmospheric sciences outreach and education at lower levels.

Presentations of use of new technologies and on advances in atmospheric science education, e.g. on computer aided learning, web based courses or other resources presenting contemporary problems and tasks of atmospheric sciences are solicited as well. Contributions on the role of these methodologies in professional training at national Meteorological Services are also welcome as well as the presentations of educational aspects of EC and national projects.

Sharing Knowledge in Atmospheric and Climatic Sciences – the role of libraries, publications, associations and learned societies at the age of internet:

In Meteorology and Climatology, the rapid growth of the internet has prompted fundamental changes in the way publishers, libraries, associations and learned societies operate. New players have been connected motivated by new participative tools (wiki, blog, web2.0) and the use of multimedia.
At the same time, interest in atmospheric and climatic sciences is growing continuously as Society needs to confront new and more varied issues.
New questions have arisen. What access to knowledge? What validation? How to improve dialogue between scientists and citizens on a European scale (and beyond) taking into account language diversity. How to attract new audiences to existing societies? How to store and protect information in the long term?
The aim of this session is to gather speakers facing these challenges:
- Librarians
- Publishers
- Associations and learned societies
- Users and developers of projects based on internet participative tools
