Evidence shows that climate is changing and in its responses, many countries, regions and local communities have started to develop adaptation strategies. The aim of the adaptation strategies session is to share experience how this task was undertaken and also identify some research gaps. The following aspects will be addressed during the session.
Availability of scientific information is crucial in stimulating the development of a national adaptation strategy. Updating and improving the existing indicators of climate change impacts and simultaneously measures of adaptation efficiency should be considered a permanent task.
There is a need to define main drivers of social and environmental pressures and what are the foreseen main developments in the decades to come. Is there a need to develop new types of information that will require the development of efficient adaptation strategies?
As Communication and awareness is increasingly rising, it is also important to ensure public support towards these measures, and at the same time help stakeholders. Strengths and weaknesses of the current strategies also the institutional barriers should be identified in order to facilitate implementation process.
