NWP4/AW15

Host country topical session: Mountain Meteorology (co-organized)
Convener: M. Arpagaus  | Co-Conveners: M. Rotach , M. Sprenger
Oral Programme
 / Thu, 16 Sep, 08:30–18:00  / Room E1.2
Poster Programme
 / Attendance Thu, 16 Sep, 16:00–17:00  / Poster Area P5

The session will focus on mountainous aspects in meteorology and related disciplines (e.g., hydrology). We invite papers on all aspects of mountain meteorology, such as

1) Numerical weather prediction (e.g., model developments in physics, numerics, or data assimilation targeted at improving the NWP system over complex topography).

2) Applications of NWP in mountainous terrain (e.g., coupled hydrological models for flood forecasting).

3) Understanding, modelling, and forecasting of mountain-related phenomena such as wind systems (e.g., foehn, gap flow), fog, or snow.

Juerg Schmidli: 'Mechanisms of along-valley winds and heat exchange over mountainous terrain'
Andrea Rossa: 'The COST 731 Action and the MAP D-PHASE Initiative - Overview on Main Outcomes'
Georg Mayr: 'Downslope windstorms and gap winds during T-REX'
