The goal of this session is to discuss recent progress in our understanding of the protoplanetary disks from both observational and theoretical perspectives. A broad range of topics will be covered including, among other areas, transitional disks, disk chemistry, properties of dust in disks, coupling between the gas and dust components,
ionization structure and non-ideal MRI, disk formation and destruction by photoevaporation and viscous processes, etc.
