We appear to be witnessing the emergence of a new type of space industry, the so called NewSpace; in which space exploration is performed and funded as a private and entrepreneurial venture. For many of the these ventures planetary sciences either define a resource to be sold or a customer base to sell to.
This session will explore the potential opportunities this new sector may offer for planetary sciences as an enabler and as a customer. What does planetary science tell us about the feasibility of these ventures and the opportunities that exist for them? What can planetary sciences gain as a customer for these ventures and what mechanisms would need to exist to enable this?
