Explore Your Universe: Hands-on Demo's and working with science centres and museums
Thu, 12 Sep, 16:00–17:30  / Room Vesta - Haldane Press Conference Room

This session would incorporate ideas developed as part of the Explore Your Universe: Atoms to Astrophysics project that enable demonstration and hands-on practical activities for both general and secondary and primary school audiences to explore different methods of planetary study. From looking at how a particle accelerator can allow us to determine the make-up of a sample from another planet, analysing the atmospheres of exoplanets through the use of spectroscopy, Infrared remote sensing, and the importance of a planetary magnetic field on protecting an atmosphere on a planet, these engaging activities, which are also curriculum focussed, will enable students and the public alike to engage with the topic of planetary science in a fun and interactive way. We will introduce the project and the opportunities it offers to work with science centres and museums, as well as providing hints and tips for working with our audiences.
Note: Explore Your Universe is a partnership between the UK Association for Science and Discovery Centres (ASDC) and the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC).
