The Plinius Conference has continuously held a Remote Sensing Session since the advent of the conference in Maratea, Italy in 1999. This session has served as a forum for relating research findings concerning the use of remote sensing information from satellite, aircraft, balloon, and ground platforms for an improved understanding of the physics, structure,life-cycle, and climatology of severe Mediterranean storms and other related severe storm topics. At this year's conference, we continue to solicit papers and posters that are in keeping with the session's main focus. In addition, we are extending a call for papers and posters that address the use of remote sensing information for assessing and understanding the human impact of severe storms that produce damage and loss of life in the Mediterranean basin. This theme helps harmonize the Remote Sensing Session with the main theme of the overall Plinius-11 Conference, that is addressing societal concerns with severe Mediterranean storms and seeking new avenues of research that can help the population of the Mediterranean basin better cope with and prepare for these hazardous storms that represent a continuous threat to coastal living areas throughout the basin and beyond.
