This session focuses on the dynamics and scale interaction processes, thermodynamics, microphysics, electrification and boundary layer processes driving storm systems in the Mediterranean region. Storms of interest include baroclinic cyclones, warm core cyclones and medicanes, flood-producing storms, thunderstorms including squall lines, multicells, supercells, hail producing storms, tornadoes, waterspouts and mountain induced wind storms. Theoretical, observational and numerical studies of the processes involved in the genesis, intensification, track and decay of these storms and analyses of their role in Mediterranean water cycling are particularly welcome in this session.
