ST6/EOS9

Best practices for education and outreach in Solar-Terrestrial sciences (co-organized)
Convener: Sini Merikallio  | Co-Convener: Minna Palmroth
Oral Programme
 / Thu, 06 May, 10:30–12:15  / Room 29
Poster Programme
 / Attendance Thu, 06 May, 17:30–19:00  / Hall XL

The session welcomes abstracts on the various techniques, practices and campaigns that have been employed to reach the general public (or sub-populations of it) about the research achievements in solar-terrestrial sciences. Abstracts containing practical information on holding virtual conferences, virtual lectures and virtual observatories are especially encouraged. However, any abstract on techniques to educate or do public outreach fits the program. The aim is to present practices that have been observed to work, and which can be copied to save effort from the scientists trying to reach various target audiences.

Public information: The editor in chief of the most popular Astronomy-magazine in the Nordic countries starts this session by sharing his good and bad experiences in popularizing science. We will also be discovering possibilities of virtual observatories and virtual lectures, and even get to go to orbit with experiments performed on ISS. Getting science to the people is our common objective - you should not miss this session!
