The aim of this session is to examine the economic, cultural, and social factors which influence the education of engineers in different societies and provides a forum in which teachers and researchers in different EGU topic environments (e.g. engineering schools, institutions, universities, international organizations, industry, etc.) can share accounts of good practice and discuss methodology. Technological change constantly creates new demands on both engineers and the educational system that produces them. However a special effort has to be made to the development and improvement of engineering education necessary to meet those demands.

Even we want to put an emphasis on specific European developments in the field of engineering education, presentations showing a worldwide perspective and with an international or intercultural dimension are also welcome. The session is open to all levels: undergraduate, master degree and PhD education.

We are planning to publish selected papers as a special issue of Journal of Engineering Education.

Funding provided by Comunidad de Madrid (CM) under project number CCG07-UPM/AMB-1998 is greatly appreciated.
