This poster session presents novel approaches and new ideas for students and young people to appreciate the importance of science in their daily life. Teachers and educators need their knowledge base regularly updated with tools that will help their students critically evaluate scientific information transmitted via the media. The higher education system needs strategies to attract future scientists from across the globe to study the Earth’s atmosphere, geosphere, biosphere, cryosphere and hydrosphere, and scientists from all disciplines need guidance on how best to interact with schools so their contributions can be valued.
At the higher education level, graduate and post-graduate education demands a strong interdisciplinary and inter-institutional approach. New educational concepts are therefore essential for an excellent professional work force in research and/or commercial and public institutions.
This session addresses how we can best educate school students, under-graduates and post-graduates as well as the general public, government agencies and science stakeholders about key issues related to geoscience.
Via experiences and exemplars of best practice illustrated in poster format, this session will present school teachers, university lecturers and researchers that describe their outreach efforts in the lab, field and geoscience classrooms to promote high-quality geoscience education at all levels.
