SSS1.2/EOS22 Soil Science Education (co-organized) |
Convener: David L. Lindbo | Co-Conveners: Bradley Miller , Jerry Maroulis |
Education can come in many forms and strategies; this session welcomes all perspectives on teaching soil science, at all school levels. Teaching soil science is naturally a hands-on endeavor, yet there are many ways to communicate important concepts to diverse audiences. Soil science is also special in that it is the intersection of many other topics of scientific exploration. From primary to post/secondary school, this means that soil is an excellent medium for discussing basic concepts of physics, chemistry, biology, geology, etc. In addition, including soil science is essential to education about agricultural production, environmental quality, and sustainability. This session invites anyone working with soil science education, whether in traditional or non-traditional settings, to share their experiences. Demonstrations of innovation, novel approaches, and methods for evaluating educational effectiveness are especially welcome.
