The analysis of microstructures, crystallographic textures and reaction microfabrics is used to assess the 2-, 3- and 4-dimensional geometrical, physical and chemical properties of geo-materials, allowing the investigation of deformational, magmatic, metamorphic, or depositional processes that are involved in their formation.
These methods include the quantitative assessment of particle shape and orientation, of grain and pore size distributions and spatial correlations, as well as statistical pattern analysis, derivation of pole figures or analysis of orientation and misorientation data. Mapping techniques are used to visualize and combine the analysis of microstructure and texture, and time-resolved (4D) data yield rates of the involved processes.
We invite contributions from researchers presenting new or improved methods or technical developments in microstructure and texture analysis, such as EBSD, X-ray diffraction and topography, TEM, SIMS, Atom probe, , X-ray or Neutron microtomographic techniques, AMS and light optical techniques. Novel attempts to data processing, analysis and interpretation are also welcomed.
We welcome discussions as well as demonstrations of methods of microstructure and texture analysis applied to geo-materials (including ice and clay) from natural samples, deformation experiments, material sciences applications or numerical simulations.
