Soil security and global challenges
Convener: Dominique Arrouays | Co-conveners: Damien Field, Alex McBratney, Panos Panagos, Laura Poggio

Soil security relates to the maintenance and improvement of soil resources in the world to performs functions such as producing food, fibre and fresh water, contributing to energy and climate stability, maintaining biodiversity and protecting natural systems. There are five core dimensions of soil security: Capability (What can this soil do?), Condition (Can the soil continue to do this?), Capital (What value does the soil provide?), Connectivity (Who cares about soil?) and Codification (What regulations are needed to protect soil?). Together they define and assess the soil’s contributions to human well-being.

This session welcomes presentation on the different aspects of soil security and in general on the challenges of the implementation of the soil security framework in a range of cases.
