Soil health Intervention: Practical aspects to implement laws
Convener: Giles Ross | Co-convener: Julia Koninger
With knowledge of up to 70% of land in the EU threatened by climate change, intensive land-use and biodiversity loss, soils need to be restored and managed sustainably as a crucial backbone for terrestrial life. In line with this, the proposed EU Soil Monitoring Law, the EU Soil Mission, and the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration are aligning their focus on improving soils, soil health restoration and soil biodiversity conservation. However, there are still many unresolved questions and practical aspects. A solid scientific basis is needed to inform policymakers and practitioners to implement sustainable management solutions. As such, we are inviting you to present your conceptual, methodological or data issues related to the monitoring of soil health at different scales.
We welcome presenters that pose questions that will aid in implementation of the laws, ranging from investigation of enabling and constraining factors, methodological and analytical approaches. Bringing the state of the art of ongoing discussions together we hope to set the needed direction for upcoming policy decisions.
