Pedology provides a framework for understanding the formation, distribution, and evolution of soils within landscapes. Sitting at the intersection of the geosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, and atmosphere, soils and the landscapes within which they reside represent useful proxy records for understanding the complementary influences of time, topography, biota, climate, and mineralogy on the evolution of planetary surfaces. This session brings together research exploring soil–landscape relationships across spatial and temporal scales, from individual pedons to regional landscapes and across a diversity of environmental settings, including modern, past, extreme, and extraterrestrial environments. We welcome contributions focused on soil genesis, soil geomorphology, paleopedology, soil mapping, and astropedology that address questions related to soil and landscape evolution, paleoenvironmental reconstruction, and related phenomena. The session aims to highlight novel and diverse approaches for using soils to understand environmental change and the history of terrestrial and planetary surfaces.
