Join us to help put some of the world's most vulnerable places on the map. A mapathon is a mapping marathon, where we get together to contribute to OpenStreetMap - the world's free map. OSM is used by many organisations for disaster preparedness and response. No previous mapping experience is necessary
- just bring your laptop and we will provide the training. If you do not have a laptop, you are welcome to join to learn more, and may be able to do some 'light' mapping on your smartphone. We welcome you to learn more about crowdsourcing, open data and humanitarian response - we will also provide some tips for how to host a mapathon at your home institution.

The goal of this event is to foster relationships and solidarity among women attendees of EGU2020. Many of the women who attend the EGU conference are the only woman in their research group-- so conferences/workshops are critical times for them to connect with other women in their field. This networking event aims to strengthen the community of women scientists in EGU and provide a (safer) place for women to network at the conference.

An additional aim of this event is to find more women in geosciences who would be interested in helping plan more of these events at future conferences.

This event is sponsored by the Earth Science Women's Network.

Public information:

Along with fostering relationships and increasing solidarity among women attendees of EGU2020, a goal of the event is also to find more women geoscientists who would be interested in helping plan future women's networking events at major conferences.

Food will be provided. This event is sponsored by the Earth Science Women's Network.

JC – GA job centre

JC1

Are you a job seeker and looking for an opportunity to present yourself to potential employers? Or are you an employer looking for talented people to strengthen your team? This is the session you are looking for!

Job seekers, get on stage and present yourself to the audience in 2 minutes and have the chance to talk to potential employers afterwards. There is no projector so all eyes are on YOU! What are your top 3 interests? What are your most important skills and abilities? What kind of job are you looking for? In other words, why do THEY want YOU?

Employers, use the platform for 2 minutes to spread the word about job openings in your team. Let the listeners know what kind of job you are offering (PhD, Post-doc, data scientist, GIS-specialist etc.) and what kind of person you are looking for (skill-set, level of experience etc.) and how to apply.

To take part in this session, you just show up at the open space for job seekers at the exhibition spot on the 1st floor and grab that microphone. There will be possibilities to exchange contact details and receive information about job offers.

LRS – Lectures organized by related scientific societies

LRS1

Since 2006, the German Geophysical Society (DGG) promotes the C.F. Gauss Lecture within the frame of the General Assembly of the European Geosciences Union (EGU). Selected authors give an in-depth overview on a specific field of geophysics. The C.F. Gauss Lecture will be accompanied by a reception for members and friends of the DGG before it starts. All delegates of the EGU2020 are invited to participate.

This lecture has been presented each year since 1981 and is one of the principal events in the British Geophysical Association calendar. The Bullerwell lecture, named after the first Chief Geophysicist of the British Geological Survey, is a prestigious event that has been given by many of those UK geophysicists (see below) who are major international Earth Scientists, receiving honours from a wide range of learned societies, academic and governmental institutions.

PPAA – Pre- & post-assembly activities

Simple bucket-type models continue to play an important role in catchment hydrology. During this short course we discuss these bucket-type models in general as well as current research challenges related to their applications. The focus will be on introducing two examples of such models in more detail, namely the HBV model and the GR4J model. Hands-on exercises will introduce software implementations for these two models.

DAY: Sunday, 3 May 2020, 09:00-17:00

The trip aims to provide a brief outlook on the processes occurring in orogenic root domains on the example of the Bohemian Massif in Austria. Special focus will be given to deformation structures and strain partitioning between rocks of different composition and rheology. The excellent exposures in the Bohemian Massif gives a great opportunity to study the interplay between chemical changes and deformation processes in the lower crust. Additionally, the high amount of migmatisation in some areas of the Moldanubian domain allows for studying the influence of melt on deformation processes. The field trip is especially addressed to early career scientists (ECS) taking part at the EGU general assembly in order to give them the opportunity to, not only discuss tectonic and metamorphic processes in the field, but also to meet new people and build up a network for the conference. The number of participants is limited to 18! In case you're interested in joining us or have any further questions contact Anna Rogowitz (Anna.Rogowitz@univie.ac.at) This trip is financially supported by EGU! Venue: Bohemian Massif (Austria), Landhotel Donautalblick (Artstetten, Austria) Start date: 02.05.2020 8:00 am End date: 03.05.2020 ~4:00 pm
