Named after Georg Wüst, a pioneer in modern physical oceanography known for his groundbreaking work on deep ocean circulation and the Atlantic Ocean, the prize celebrates not only scientific excellence but also the spirit of curiosity and interdisciplinary thinking that Wüst embodied throughout his career.
The award ceremony at the EGU General Assembly will include a laudation, a scientific talk from the prizewinner, and time for open discussion. The event is open to all attendees and will be preceded by a networking reception.
About the DGM:
The German Society for Marine Research (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Meeresforschung, DGM) is an interdisciplinary network supporting marine science in German. DGM fosters collaboration across oceanography, biogeochemistry, marine ecology, and climate research, while actively promoting early-career development and scientific exchange. Alongside the Georg Wüst Prize, DGM hosts events such as the YOUMARES conference series, an internationally recognized platform for young marine researchers.
