Metamorphic rocks record the thermal and chemical evolution of the crust across Earth's history, from Archean cratons to Cenozoic orogens. This session welcomes studies of metamorphic processes at any point along that record at all time scales and spatial extends, whether focused on a single sample, a single orogen or a specific time period, as well as contributions comparing metamorphic style across time. Together, these studies build a broader picture of how metamorphic and orogenic processes have operated throughout Earth's history.
We invite contributions using metamorphic petrology, thermodynamic modelling, petrochronology and geochronology, structural and microstructural analysis, or geochemistry. We welcome interdisciplinary approaches, combining multiple tools to better understand metamorphic processes. Combined, these approaches allow the pressure-temperature-time evolution of metamorphic terranes and their deformation history to be reconstructed.
